A2L Refrigerant Changes Impacting Multifamily HVAC

As you may know, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has issued a final rule that restricts the use of hydrofluorocarbons in specific sectors or subsectors in which they are used. Starting on January 1, 2025, manufacturers of HVAC equipment will no longer be able to use R410a and will have to switch to an A2L refrigerant (R454B or R32).

This ruling impacts the design, installation and cost of multifamily HVAC equipment that utilizes line sets (refrigerant lines). Below is a link to a brief overview of the changes that are taking place with the adoption of the IEEC 2021 Standard and an overview of the products that we manufacture.
